A safe, environmentally friendly insecticide-fungicide can be made from
- 5 Tablespoons of any vegetable oil
- 1 TBS. of baking soda
- 4 TBS. of liquid dish soap mixed in 1 gallon of water
and sprayed on the plant. Remove noxious weeds to lessen nutrient competition to your crop.
When I made it up I used Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint soap for the soap part and I stuck it all in a gallon pump sprayer thing. I just spritzed the tomato plants. We’ll see how it goes.

just wondering if there’s away to keep off aphids. Does soap work aswell for them? Also, I’ve heard that any kind of mild soap works. Which soaps should I stay away from?
For aphids…Drench plants with strong sprays of water from a garden hose to kill aphids.
Keep your plants as healthy as possible, and spray dormant oil to control overwintering eggs on fruit trees.
Spray aphids with insecticidal soap, summer oil, and homemade garlic sprays.
