Dolls

Still working on the crazy living room boxes. While tidying I tossed Julia her doll. “Here’s your baby… catch!” “Ugh! Don’t hurt her!” she yelps. Which made me snicker because I thought about my BIL. He took his daughter’s doll and hung it with rope, got his wife to take the Polaroid, and left a [...]

Time for Low Key

I am resisting the urge to do anything housework-y right now.  It’s 10:22 PM.  What I ought to do is make myself some tea and think about doing something relaxing. I’m trying to learn not to be so Type A. Each and every summer day doesn’t have to be crammed full of things. This is [...]

We adapted it somewhat so Julia could help make it and so I could use up some yellow squash though. INGREDIENTS One 17-ounce tube polenta 2 cups grated yellow crookneck squash One 28-ounce jar [...]

A fast lunch fix.  Julia had hers with goldfish crackers floating on it.  Couldn’t really tell the egg was there — I think going vegan with it and using tofu would be better. Not bad, but needs a little work.  Its main virtue is quickness — esp with impatient 5 year old around. I can [...]

This can be made pretty quickly though I’ve seen recipes that include yeast and some rising time.  I’m not that nice to my dough. I also sometimes prefer it more like crepes (variation below) This serves 4. 2 cups flour 3/4 cup water (boiling) 1 tsp salt 1 tbs oil Mix all those together in [...]

Apple Watercress Juice

Sometimes you win, sometimes you don’t. This was a don’t! Two green apples plus 1/2 bunch of watercress run through the juicer might look like a pretty green drink, but it isn’t enough apple to disguise the sharp, peppery taste of the watercress. I chugged it and vowed to never make it again. Oy!

It is funny how you stumble across memories you’d thought you’d forgotten.  Mom was asking me the other day if I was ever going to make her that “Pinwheel Christmas Bread” again. She’d gone to Georgia on vacation and brought me a big bag of pecan meal. I had found a bread recipe somewhere and [...]
