I’m enjoying the book, but I still wish it named quantities in measures I know. What’s a “handful?” Can we get “cups” or “ounces” please?

The way I made it, I didn’t have any black currants.  So I went for

• 1 box of blackberries (about 6 oz)
• 1/2 bag of frozen blueberries (about 4 oz)
• 1 banana
• 1/2 cup apple juice

Awesome purple color.  Sweet fruity flavor. I could easily hide some greens in there — romaine or spinach — and get Julia to drink it.

I’ll have to work on the measures to get it to a defined 1 glass quantity though.  If we aren’t sharing, that would be good info to know.

Didn’t have time to smoothie this morning, so ended up having it now. This one makes enough for 1 person:

• 5 oz carrot
• 2.5 oz grape
• 1 celery stalk
• dash of water and some ice

Blenderize.  Serve up cold in an absinthe glass. Whee!

Today I made it up from whatever was around.  Let it be known from here on out that it is purple and it makes about 24 fl oz — that’s THREE 8 oz mugs!

• 1 banana
• 6 oz blackberries
• 5 romaine lettuce leaves
• 1 cup OJ
• 1 cup ice

Blender smooth, drink up!

Julia and I decided to adapt the first recipe like this:

• 1/2 romaine
• 3 bananas
• 1 cup raspberries
• 1 cup water
• 1 cup ice

It made about four (8) ounce glasses and we all had one.  The last went in the fridge.  It was ok.  I prefer a fruit juice base rather than water, Paul said he could go either way, and Julia was just happy it turned pink once the berries went in.  Before that it was a pale green.

• 1 grapefruit, juiced
• 1 cup blueberries

I hand juiced the grapefruit and then whizzed it with 1 cup blueberries with the stick blender.

I’ve had a headache all day and I’m trying to cut the brain fog.  It helped somewhat.

This was a don’t! Two green apples plus 1/2 bunch of watercress run through the juicer might look like a pretty green drink, but it isn’t enough apple to disguise the sharp, peppery taste of the watercress.

I chugged it and vowed to never make it again. Oy!

• 1/2 melon
• 2 pears
• 1 inch chunk fresh ginger

Run through juicer, yields around 2 cups

I think I’d like it better without quite so much ginger. The combo was a little too spicy for me. But Julia seemed to like it a lot and that really surprised me. I didn’t figure her for liking ginger.

• 4 kiwi, peeled
• 6 oz. green grapes, washed

Run through juicer. Yields a bit more than 1 cup. Has a sweet but tart taste.

This was 3 large organic carrots + 2 medium organic apples run through the juicer.

Yielded not quite 2 cups of juice. Julia and I both like this combination.
